OSSD Diploma: Empowering Your
Future with High-Quality Education
The Ontario
Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is a valuable credential that can benefit both Vietnamese and foreign students living in Vietnam in several ways.
For Vietnamese students, the OSSD is recognized as an entrance requirement for universities across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and other countries around the world. This means that students who hold an OSSD have access to a wide range of higher education opportunities, including some of the top-ranked universities in the world. This is particularly advantageous for Vietnamese students who want to pursue higher education abroad and increase their chances of being accepted to top universities.
The OSSD at Hanoi Toronto School is delivered through our sister-school, Lynn-Rose College.
- The OSSD can also benefit foreign students living in Vietnam who are interested in pursuing higher education in Canada or other countries. By completing their secondary education in Ontario and earning the OSSD, these students can demonstrate their academic proficiency and increase their chances of being accepted to top universities. In addition, the OSSD can help foreign students save time and money when applying to universities in other countries. For example, students who hold an OSSD are exempt from writing exit examinations for admission to universities in Australia and New Zealand, and many English-speaking universities throughout Asia exempt students from the IELTS requirement if they have obtained a minimum mark of 85% in ENG4U (Grade 12 English).
- Another benefit of achieving an OSSD diploma is that it demonstrates a student’s proficiency in English. Since English is the primary language of instruction in Canadian schools, students who complete their secondary education in Ontario have a solid foundation in the language. This can be particularly beneficial for both Vietnamese and foreign students living in Vietnam who want to pursue higher education in English-speaking countries or work in international settings.
How can my OSSD advantage me when applying to top universities?
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is recognized worldwide as an entrance requirement for universities throughout Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and more.
All students, both Canadian and international, who hold an OSSD, are considered equally for admission to all Canadian universities https://www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-101/
Students who complete their high school credits in Ontario and earn the OSSD are not required to complete university entrance examinations in their home country. Ontario graduates can apply directly to universities in Hong Kong, Singapore and other regions in Asia with their OSSD. In fact , many English-speaking universities throughout Asia exempt students from the IELTS requirement if they have obtained a minimum mark of 85% in ENG4U (Grade 12 English).
Students who hold an OSSD are not required to attend preparatory and A-Level exams for admission to UK universities.
Students who hold an OSSD are not required to write exit examinations for admission to universities in Australia or New Zealand. In addition, since all students with an OSSD have passed ENG4U (Grade 12 English), they are not required to show evidence of IELTS proficiency.
The US and Canada have similar education systems. OSSD holders have high acceptance rates to American universities, and in some instances, no SAT is required.
